What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a tool used to help you better understand yourself. It can lead to a greater sense of purpose, better relationships, increased self-awareness, and less overall distress. It achieves these things through the therapeutic relationship which is based on trust, empathy, and unconditional acceptance.
As a psychotherapist trained in the humanistic tradition, I believe in treating the whole person. I view each client as unique and employ techniques from various modalities--interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, psychoanalytic, existential, dialectical behavior therapy--based on what the client needs. I see adolescents and adults for individual therapy and I encourage clients to be very active in their own treatment. I believe the journey of self-discovery is an exciting one, and one that takes courage!
